Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Information for contributors.
  • If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.

Author Guidelines

Articles

The NJEdH will consider all manuscripts on the strict condition that they have not already been published elsewhere, have only been submitted to the NJEdH, and are not under consideration for publication or in print elsewhere.

Manuscripts are submitted online. Unregistered users may register here.

Manuscripts are accepted in English and in Scandinavian languages.

The word limit for an article is 11,000 words. This covers all text in the article, including footnotes and the concluding reference list

All manuscripts should be anonymized.

Abstracts of 1,000 characters (including spaces) are required for all manuscripts submitted.

Each paper should have 3 to 5 keywords.

Research sponsorship (e.g. by research councils, government departments and agencies, etc.) should be declared.

Manuscripts should adhere to the recommendations in the document Information for contributors.

Authors are responsible for obtaining the necessary permission from copyright holders for the use of artwork and illustrations.

Book Reviews

Reviews of books suitable to the scope of the journal as well as books on conceptual questions regarding the history of education are welcome. Please check with editors before writing book reviews to ensure no one else is already engaged in reviewing the same book. Faculty examiners of Nordic dissertations on the history of education are encouraged to write longer reviews in the reviews section.

Book reviews are submitted online.

Reviews are accepted in English and in Scandinavian languages.

Reviews of monographs should not exceed 1,000 words and reviews of edited volumes should not exceed 1,500 words. Reviews of dissertations should not exceed 3,500 words.

The review section is a non-peer reviewed section, but submissions will be subject to editorial review.

At the head of your review please provide the following standard information (in order): 
author(s)/editor(s)
, title and subtitle in italics
 (place of publication: publisher, year)
, no. of pages pp.
 For example:
 Andy Green, Education and State Formation: The Rise of Education Systems in England, France, and the USA (London: Macmillan, 1990), 353 pp.

At the end of your review please provide the following information: Your name 
- your affiliation
 - your e-mail address.

Articles

All articles must be based on original research, and not published elsewhere. This includes articles published in another language. The word limit for an article is 11,000 words. This covers all text in the article, including footnotes and the concluding reference list. Please, make sure your manuscript is in line with the journal's scope and aim. Both English and Nordic/Scandinavian languages are accepted. For further information, see author guidelines.
