Activism for free, safe, and legal abortion in Ecuador and Bolivia
Vol. 3 No. 2 (2026)
The Journal of Community Systems for Health presents the following Special Issue on Activisms for free, safe, and legal abortion in Ecuador and Bolivia.
This Special Issue brings together nine narratives produced through collaboration between feminist researchers and activists advocating for free, safe, and legal abortion in Ecuador and Bolivia. Using the Narrative Productions methodology, the volume documents diverse trajectories of feminist activism, including strategic litigation, political advocacy, feminist accompaniment, community-based work, and articulations with territorial and class-based struggles. The narratives reflect tensions, learning processes, and strategies in the face of restrictive legal contexts and political backlash, highlighting the movement’s plurality and the value of situated knowledge. This Special Issue offers a collective contribution to understanding and strengthening struggles for reproductive autonomy in Latin America (Cover design by Pepita Machado Arévalo).
